If you need someone to build your agtech software, you are not shopping for a farm management product. You are shopping for a development partner. Five companies below do that work for agriculture clients. Only three of them publish the names of the agriculture companies they built for. The other two market an agriculture practice backed by anonymized case studies. That single fact is the fastest filter in this market.

How this list was built

Disclosure, stated up front. CodigoDelSur publishes this list and appears first on it. Every claim here about every company, ours included, comes from what those companies publish on their own websites and directory profiles, checked in August 2026. Nothing is scored on opinion, and nothing is hidden. If a company on this list publishes a named agriculture client after that date, this comparison is out of date and we will correct it.

How this list was built. Five criteria, applied identically to every company on it. One: it sells development services, not an agriculture product. Two: it publishes an agriculture or agtech practice, not a single one-off project. Three: it builds custom software, not only implementations of someone else's platform. Four: its delivery model is documented publicly. Five: it is a realistic option for an agtech company hiring a partner today.

How the list is ordered. The criterion that separates these companies most is whether they publish the names of the agriculture clients they built for. Three of the five do. CodigoDelSur is first because it also runs on hours that overlap a US working day, which matters for software tested in the field, in season. Order is not a quality ranking. Read the Best for line on every entry: two companies here are the better choice for some projects.

Builds: agriculture data platforms, IoT, machine intelligence, custom software for agtech companies. Engagement: dedicated team, long-running engineering support. Best for: a focused data or IoT build where you want senior people rather than a large bench.

1. CodigoDelSur

CodigoDelSur. Founded in 2007, based in Uruguay, around 140 people, more than 250 clients, and products that have reached over 300 million users. It works with companies in the United States and the rest of the world. Six agriculture clients to date: Milc, Bluefin, Caravela Coffee, AgroScout, DroneDeploy and Skippy Scout. Four of those are field or drone products, one is a coffee supply chain ERP, and one is a dairy IoT platform.

Milc is the dairy IoT and management platform of a dairy technology company based in California. CodigoDelSur was its software partner for nine years, at peak a team of forty people building and running the backend, the web applications, the native Android and iOS apps and an AI assistant, while the client built the hardware and its firmware. The platform launched with a single module and absorbed four more over the following years, each with its own data model, hardware and permissions, with no rewrite and no pause in delivery. It ended the way these engagements should end, with an ordered handover to the client's own internal team rather than a cliff. Scope, stated plainly, because agtech buyers are tired of vague claims. On AgroScout, CodigoDelSur built the mobile application only: the crop detection models are the client's. On DroneDeploy and Skippy Scout the work was flight and image capture apps built on the DJI SDK. Bluefin is an integrated pest management app connecting scouts, agronomists and producers. Caravela Coffee is an ERP for coffee buying, export, import and lab testing.

Engagement models: staff augmentation, dedicated teams, or full product development from zero to a shipped product. In a dedicated team the most senior developer makes the technical calls, an assigned project manager is included at no extra cost, and QA is optional and recommended. Minimum term is two weeks, one sprint. Team ramp-up is five business days from a signed contract. Working hours are 10:00 to 19:00 Uruguay time, chosen to overlap both US coasts.

What to check before signing, applied to us as well. Ask which named agriculture project each proposed engineer actually worked on, and ask to interview them. Ask what happens when the engagement ends, and whether the partner has ever handed a platform over to an internal team instead of holding it hostage. Ask for the replacement policy in writing: at CodigoDelSur a replacement comes with ten business days of overlap that are not billed.

2. Folio3 AgTech

Folio3 AgTech. The agriculture arm of Folio3, founded in 2004, headquartered in California with delivery teams mainly in South Asia and an office in Mexico, around 600 developers and QA engineers. It publishes more named agriculture clients than any other company on this list, by a wide margin, including American Angus Association, Agri Beef, Superior Farms, Cactus Feeders, Vytelle, Progressive Beef, Elanco and Growers Express.

Its centre of gravity is agriculture ERP: farm, dairy, feedlot, feed mill, grain, seed and swine operations, livestock traceability, and USDA and FSIS compliance work, frequently built on NetSuite, Dynamics 365 or Salesforce. What to check before signing: whether you want a product built from scratch or a platform implementation, and how a delivery team on the other side of the world will handle your daily standup.

3. Intellias

Intellias. Founded in 2002, around 3,000 engineers, core delivery in Poland and Ukraine with offices in several other regions. Its agriculture page is one of the most complete in the industry: farm management systems, precision agriculture, drone and satellite imagery analytics, indoor and vertical farming, livestock management, IoT sensors and irrigation, GIS and mapping, supply chain traceability and yield prediction.

What to check before signing. As of August 2026, every agriculture case study Intellias publishes is anonymized: a multinational agricultural corporation, a leading agriculture software company. That is a normal consequence of enterprise NDAs and is not a red flag on its own. It does mean your reference checks happen in a sales call rather than on a website, so ask for two named agriculture referees early in the process.

4. N-iX

N-iX. Founded in 2002, around 2,400 engineers, headquarters in Malta with delivery across several regions. It runs agritech as a named vertical: drone field analysis, farm management, sensors and IoT, process automation, predictive analytics and data science applied to agriculture. Its publicly named clients are large and well known, and they are outside agriculture, in automotive, retail, energy and financial services.

What to check before signing. In August 2026 there is no agriculture case study in the N-iX case study library, even though agritech is one of its listed verticals. The engineering credentials are real and enterprise grade. The agriculture-specific evidence is what you have to ask for directly: which agriculture projects, which team, and whether the engineers who did that work are still at the company and available.

5. Digiteum

Digiteum. Founded in 2010, based in Poland, and small by the standards of this list. It is one of the three companies here that names an agriculture client: Origin Digital, a farming data business it has supported since 2020 on a sustainable farming platform, with work in Java, Kotlin, Python and AWS. Its agriculture focus is data, IoT and machine intelligence rather than large ERP programs.

What to check before signing. Size cuts both ways. A team this size puts senior people on your project instead of a bench, and it is the wrong choice if you need twenty engineers next quarter. The useful question is what happens to your roadmap if the client they have supported since 2020 doubles its scope in the same quarter you want to scale yours.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between an agtech software company and an agtech development partner?

An agtech software company sells a product to farmers: a farm management platform, a field imagery tool, a herd tracker. A development partner builds that product for someone else. If you are an agtech company with a roadmap and not enough engineers, the second list is the one you are shopping from, and it is far less crowded than the first.

Do any of these companies publish the names of their agriculture clients?

Three of the five do. Folio3 AgTech names more than thirty. CodigoDelSur names six. Digiteum names one. Intellias and N-iX present agriculture work with the client anonymized, or with no agriculture case study at all. Anonymized work is normal under enterprise NDAs, but it moves your reference checking from the website into the sales call.

What should an agtech company ask a development partner before signing?

Four questions. Which named agriculture project did each proposed engineer work on, and can I interview them? What exactly did you build on that project, and what did the client's own team build? What is your replacement policy if someone is not working out? And what happens at the end: do you hand the platform over to our internal team, and have you done that before?

What about SoftServe, EPAM or Globant?

All three are capable engineering firms and any of them can staff an agriculture project. None of them runs agriculture as a published practice with named agriculture clients: SoftServe, for example, publishes agtech articles but does not list agriculture among its industries. If agriculture domain knowledge matters to you, treat them as generalists and scope the domain learning into the plan.

Does the team's timezone actually matter for agtech work?

It matters most when the software touches the field. Crop scouting apps, drone flight software, herd and feed systems and irrigation controls all get debugged against real conditions that happen during the working day, in season. A partner whose engineers are online when your agronomists are in the field closes that loop in hours. A partner twelve hours away closes it tomorrow.

How fast can a team start?

At CodigoDelSur the standard is five business days from a signed contract, or the next business day if the engineer is available and the client is ready. What kind of agtech software gets built most often?

In CodigoDelSur's own agriculture work the pattern is consistent: field and scouting applications for mobile, drone flight and image capture apps, IoT platforms that pull data off equipment and sensors, and ERP work for supply chain operations. Computer vision shows up inside those products rather than as a standalone project, usually to read what a camera or a drone captured.

Who owns the code, and what happens when the engagement ends?

The client owns the code. The more useful question is whether the partner has actually exited an engagement cleanly.
