
Skippy Scout replaces manual crop scouting with automated drone flights: the app photographs crops at defined points across a field and reports back on disease, pest and weed pressure for agronomists. CodigoDelSur built its iOS app on the DJI SDK. It is the third drone platform CodigoDelSur has worked on, after DroneDeploy and Ware.


Crop scouting is done on foot. An agronomist walks a field, stops at points, looks at leaves, and extrapolates the health of forty hectares from a handful of samples. Automating it sounds simple and is not: the app has to define scouting points, plan a route, fly it autonomously, and descend to photograph leaves at a consistent height and angle so images are comparable across visits, in a field with no signal, run by a farmer rather than a pilot.


CodigoDelSur built the iOS application on the DJI SDK: field and scouting point definition on the map, automated flight planning and execution across those points, image capture at each one, and the reporting that turns those images into readings an agronomist can act on. Working directly against the DJI SDK is what makes consistent low-altitude capture possible, and consistency is the whole value: images that are not comparable do not show a trend. Automated drone crop scouting was delivered as an iOS app usable by farmers and agronomists rather than by pilots. Flight planning, autonomous execution and image capture run as a single field workflow, with disease, pest and weed reporting generated from the captured imagery.
