Grubhub is one of the largest food ordering and delivery marketplaces in the United States. Alongside its own marketplace, it offers restaurants branded, white-label ordering apps. CodigoDelSur built and maintained that white-label mobile platform for close to four years. Just Eat Takeaway acquired Grubhub in 2021 in a deal valued at approximately $7.3 billion, and sold it to Wonder in 2025.
A restaurant group that wants its own branded app does not want a four month custom build. One codebase had to produce a genuinely branded app per restaurant, each with its own menu, payments, loyalty rules and delivery configuration, and each able to pass App Store and Play Store review on its own. Multiply that by more than a hundred restaurants and the hard problem stops being any single feature. It becomes release engineering.
CodigoDelSur engineers worked embedded inside the Grubhub product organization on the white-label platform: the ordering flow with menus and modifiers, payments through Braintree with in-app card scanning, loyalty, delivery tracking on Google Maps, offline-tolerant local storage, and push and analytics on Firebase. Native on both platforms throughout. Stack: Swift, Objective-C, Kotlin, Core Data, Braintree, CardIO, Google Maps SDK, Firebase, iOS, Android.
Branded ordering apps were launched and maintained for more than 100 restaurants, with ordering, payments, loyalty and delivery delivered from one white-label codebase. The embedded team scaled to 15 developers over close to four years, from 2018 to 2022, and stayed for a year after Grubhub was acquired. This is what staff augmentation looks like at CodigoDelSur: engineers who join your teams and grow with the program.
